Safari AdBlock on Snow Leopard

  August 27th, 2009

Safari AdBlock 0.4.0 RC3 now works on Snow Leopard.

To make it work, though, you have to run Safari in 32-bit mode. To do so, select Safari.app in the Applications folder, hit ⌘-I to show the “Get Info” window, and check the “Open in 32-bit mode” checkbox:

Open in 32-bit mode

I’m looking into an alternative solution to allow Safari to run in 64-bit with AdBlock (and any InputManager) enabled.

Are you still developing this plugin?

  2. Marc says:

Yes, interested to know if this is still being developed.

Crippling Safari to 32-bits is a work around — not the final solution.
Please advise/update the page if Safari AdBlock is still being worked on.

I hope that this is true: http://www.macrumors.com/2010/05/25/john-gruber-hints-at-possible-introduction-of-safari-extensions-at-wwdc/, and that I have some free time this summer to work on an update. I will update this blog if there are any news. But the project is open-source, contributions are welcome!

It does not block the advertisings in Yahoo mail, in the Liberation.fr website, in the LeMonde.fr website. Where is it really efficient ?

  5. martin says:

Hey Xavier, I read Le Monde everyday and don’t see a single ad on the website. I’m really sorry that your installation of AdBlock doesn’t work. Anyway, since Apple announced official extensions for Safari 5, the current version of Safari AdBlock is being deprecated. I’m looking into the new extension API and will let you know what I decide for the future.

    Hey,
I would love if this would work on 64bit Safari =) Great Extension, Thanks!
